Roxas

Early in my blogging history, you readers were not familiar with Kingdom Hearts. So I'm going to tell you about a tragic character from the series.

Roxas is the "Nobody" of the protagonist, Sora. A Nobody in the KH-verse is the form of a person after they lose their heart. A Nobody consists of false emotions... for the most part.

Roxas made his first cameo appearance in the handheld video game Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Speculation rose about who this character was. Was he Tidus from Final Fantasy X? Was he just there?

He made his first public appearance in Kingdom Hearts II, but I'll explain his story there in a bit.

The video game Kingdom Hearts 358/2 Days told the story of Roxas prior to his KHII appearance. Roxas was a member of the antagonistic Organization XIII, a group consisting of the 13 most powerful Nobodies. Soon after Roxas joins, a new member is enlisted: No. XIV: Xion. Roxas is soon sent on missions to defeat Heartless to gather hearts so the giant world Kingdom Hearts will be able to give Nobodies hearts. Throughout Roxas' 357 days in the Organization, he bonds with Xion and Axel, another Nobody. Their friendship seems inseparable. However, Axel's shady work at Castle Oblivion, another Organization headquarters, and secret knowledge of Xion makes his friendship with Roxas one where he can't share everything. And Xion starts changing because of her empty past. Soon Roxas finds himself in a whirlwind of confusion as a mysterious impostor starts rising suspicion, and to make it worse, Axel and Xion start fighting for some strange reason. Roxas learns that Xion has been visiting with the impostor, but dares not tell the strict dispatcher, Saix, about it.

The superior Organization members come to a consensus that they can have only one Keyblade in the Organization and pit Xion and Roxas against each other. Axel can't bear that to happen and stops them from killing each other. However, while on a three-way mission with Axel and Xion and another member, Xion escapes, but Axel finds her and brings her back to the Organization to bring her back to what she was purposed to do.

Roxas runs away to find out who he is and why he was having dreams of Sora. Roxas comes upon his favorite world and starts thinking that it was futile to leave. Xion comes and visits with Roxas, but soon attacks him, because her purpose was to destroy Roxas and make sure that Sora never wakes up while he is regaining his memories. Roxas fights a long hard battle with his old friend and she slowly starts to fade away. Roxas goes back to the Organization to fulfill Xion's final wish: Free Kingdom Hearts. Roxas goes and earns Xion's final remnant: Her Keyblade. He comes upon the impostor who turns out to be Sora's old friend, Riku, who is on a mission to rejoin Roxas and Sora and will do whatever it takes to wake up his friend, and having Roxas potentially destroyed by the Organization won't help. Roxas battles Riku and defeats him, but Riku uses his trump card to make Roxas unconscious. Riku gives Roxas to DiZ, his employer, but DiZ sends Roxas to a virtual world and replaces his memories while Sora is still sleeping and regaining his memories leading into Kingdom Hearts II, however Xion is completely forgotten.

Roxas' summer vacation is ending, and his friends Hayner, Pence, and Olette want to make the most of it... while finishing their vacation project! They do just that, but things start getting strange as DiZ's virtual world begins to corrupt due to interference by Axel and minor Nobodies. Namine, Sora's memory restorer also begins to bring Roxas to Sora. However, all the many people (DiZ, Namine, Axel and co., and Riku the pickpocket) changing his world, Roxas runs to Namine to try to find out what is going on. However, he soon comes across Axel and defeats him in a fierce battle and Roxas soon comes across DiZ. DiZ persuades Roxas to become part of Sora again to awaken him and Roxas nostalgically agrees with his last words saying, "Well, Sora. Looks like my summer vacation... is over."

Sora goes on a new adventure and comes across many Organization members who all call him Sora. Sora recognizes Roxas in a picture given to him secretly by Riku. And when Sora and co. come across Organization HQ, Sora and Roxas battle in which Sora is the victor, and Roxas fades away. Sora defeats the Organization and Roxas and Namine reunite as Roxas is Sora's Nobody (which Sora finds out), and Namine is Kairi's Nobody. While what happens to Roxas and Namine together has not been revealed, Namine and Roxas confirmed that they will be together forever as long as Kairi and Sora are together.

Roxas is a sad character, but has an entire saga in a span of just two games! Roxas and Namine are special Nobodies that did not fade away, because their former selves are still around.

Roxas is also an anagram of Sora plus an X. All Org. XIII members' names are acronyms of their former selves plus an X (however No.1 Xemnas is an acronym of his former self's teacher, Ansem the Wise, and Xion is an acronym for No.1 because she was #1 in the Replica Program and an Organization member). Roxas is voiced by Jesse McCartney in English speaking countries.
