My First Sermon

Isn't this appropriate for a Sunday?

Anyway, let me give you a brief background of today. First of all, I did not go to church this morning. We woke up late (it's hard to get ready for church in under 30 min. and wake up a sleeping brother.) So we read 2 John. Here's the sermon:

'This letter is from John, the elder. I am writing to the church God has chosen and its members, whom I love in the truth (God/Jesus)- as does everyone who knows the truth- because the truth lives in us and will be with us forever. Grace, mercy, and peace, which come from God the Father and from Jesus Christ- the Son of the Father- will continue to be with us who live in truth and love. How happy I was to meet some of your children and find them living according to the truth, just as the Father commanded. I am writing to remind you, dear friends, that we should love one another. This is not a new commandment, but one we have had from the beginning. Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you have heard from the beginning.'
-2 John v. 1-6

This is a reference to John's fellow friend and disciple Matthew (or Levi)'s Gospel book, Matthew.

'You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.' "
- Matthew 22: 37-39

" 'I say this because many deceivers have gone out into the world. They deny that Jesus Christ came [and will come] in a real body. Such a person is a deceiver and an antichrist.' "
-2 John v. 7

That's all true. The Islamic people say there was a Jesus but he was just a prophet. Jesus IS MORE THAN A PROPHET! He IS the Son of God. He DID come back to life. He DID give us salvation! He Is the Alpha, Omega, Beginning, and End. And he is closer to you than a brother. But to get to Him you must ask for salvation. He rose from the dead and rose to Heaven. That's what Easter is all about. It's not about some oversized bunny giving colored eggs. Seriously, who would make holiday on that?

That's all I have time for today, but keep coming back for more posts. It's a new season of the blog. It's Adam's (aka Pianoman's) blog v.2.0. Thank you. See you next week! Next week- 2 John sermon part 2.

P.S. All verses are from the New Living Translation version of the Bible.
